Cradle of Love- part 2
Iraq, how mysterious this land and name is for us! In historical books, it is known as "Cradle of Civilization" and has wonderful stories. This land was once the host of the first civilization ever, the Sumerians.

Cradle of Love- part 2

Third Sequence: The Period of Recess

Many years have passed and this land, with many ups and downs, has always been a center for the devotees of Ahl al-Bayt, until the Ba'ath Party and Saddam came to power in Iraq and the conditions for the Shrines and the Shiites became difficult.

Because of the crimes he committed against the people, the Iraqi dictator collapsed very quickly in the Second Persian Gulf War and the American invasion. With the fall of Saddam and the Ba'ath Party, the situation for the Shrines changed.

Fourth Sequence: Reconstructions

Since 2003, when Saddam Hussein fell, the imams' holy shrines in Iraq entered a unique stage in their entire history.

In the same years, in Iran which is a neighbor of Iraq, an organization was formed named the Organization of Supporting Iraqi People, in order to help Iraqi people and to provide services to the pilgrims.

Saddam Hussein had caused many damages to holy shrines.

One of the worst conditions was in Najaf. About three centuries ago, beautiful inscriptions in Persian, Arabic and Turkish were installed on the dome and the iwan of Imam Ali’s shrine. These inscriptions were historically and artistically valuable, but Saddam ordered to take them down and install gold bricks instead!

The Reconstruction Organization, first, found a portion of these historical inscriptions. But the problem is that some of the inscriptions were not found or are seriously damaged; and identifying the poetry carved on it is difficult.

After finding the original poem, the mystery was unraveled and the inscriptions were completely rebuilt, and reinstalled in the original form on the dome and the impressive iwan of Imam Ali’s holy shrine. The gold working on the bricks of iwan are done on-site which is very sophisticated work.

The Reconstruction Organization of Holy Shrines in Najaf did several other important work, such as building and installing the doors of the shrine, restoration of the walls outside the shrine, the construction of hussainiya Heidariya and the construction of Abu Talib portico.

But Karbala was even more severely damaged than Najaf. When the first team of the Organization arrived in Karbala they saw many serious damages all over the Imam Hussein's shrine caused by bullets and explosions from the suppression of the Shi'a uprising by Saddam Hussein. The ceiling and mirror works are in critical condition and they might collapse on the pilgrims.

A project is started for the immediate reconstruction of Karbala: Ya Hussein Project

First, the stonework inside the shrine must be mended.

Green marble, which is among the best decorative stones in the world, was transferred to Karbala, and the stone tiles of the entire floor and walls of the shrine were replaced.

After that, the mirrors and ceilings were reconstructed and 24 new doors were built and installed in the shrine.

The shrines of Habib ibn Mazhir's, the old man loyal to Imam Hussein, and Sayyid Ibrahim al-Mujab, the grandson of Imam Kadhim (as), were replaced.

But the health and sanitarian services for the pilgrims were still worrying and forced the team to extend their work outside the shrine to provide some important services.

Sayed al-Shohada (as) Complex was an important work in this field which was built according to the needs of the people and is equipped with a specialized clinic and a pharmacy to assist the sick, and besides, it has an equipped kitchen and a large dining room and 38 suites for accommodation, and some bathrooms.

The Reconstruction Organization has done some other work in the same field, building and equipping an advanced 120-bed hospital called Imam Sajjad Hospital (as).

At the same time, a very important project started in Iran. Creating a new zarih for Imam Hussein’s shrine.

Mahmoud Farshchian, the Iranian well-known artist, did the designing and a large number of proficient artists, the construction. The Iranian people sent the zarih to Karbala gloriously, and the new zarih was installed in Imam Hussein's holy shrine in 2012.

it will be continued...
