In 1743 AD, when Nader Shah Afhar(Iranian king) went on a pilgrimage to the Alavites shrine(Imam Ali shrine), he ordered to remove the green tiles that had decorated the dome and minarets of the holy shrine from the Safavid dynasty period and replace them with gold plate. therefore, the dome of the shrine was gilded. This was welcomed by the Shiites.A number of Shiite poets wrote poems about this event in Persian, Arabic, and even Turkish and Hindi.
During the Ba'athist regime, and on Saddam's order, the dome inscription was removed from the dome and turned into a brick facade.
During the Sha'banieh intifada, a lot of damage was done to the shrine, especially the holy dome.
After the fall of Saddam, the reconstruction headquarters (atabat-Iran)as the custodian of the reconstruction and development of holy shrines renovated the inscription and installed it by preserving the value of cultural heritage under supervision of engineers and experts.in th esecond phase, reinforcement, restoration and plating of the old bricks of the dome was done by preserving the value of historical heritage.
