The restoration and renovation project of the holy shrine of Imam Hussein known as Project Ya Hussain started in 2008 and finished in 2013.The "Ya Hussein" project was designed and implemented in 5 different sections, which include the following parts:
Ya Hossein 1: Installing 32 drinking fountains in the porches of the holy shrine next to the dormitories for mullahs and strengthening and replacing the wall stone
Replacement 450 meters of stony inscription called 'martyrs names and replacement of about 1300 square meters of floor stones and changing seventeen flowers on the floor of the holy shrine Replacement of 11 entrance doors of the holy shrine
Construction and installation of two windows of the Ghatlegah(the place in Karbala where Imam Hussein was martyred)
Construction and installation of a patterned door and a lattice door in the entrance of the holy shrine
Replacement of 13 doors in the holy shrine and construction of two doors of the minarets of the holy shrine.Construction of the holy shrine of Habib bin Mazaher Asadi(one of distinguished companions of Imam Hussein in Karbala) Construction and replacement of the holy shrine of Ibrahim Mojabb(He was the first Alid to settle in Karbala, he died in Karbala and was buried in the Imam Hussein shrine).
Ya Hussein 2: Replacement of the sones of the floor, walls, roofs, rooms and main entrances of the holy shrine.
Ya Hussein 3: Reinforcement and plastering of the holy shrine.
Ya Hussein 4: Restoration of the mosaic tiles of the shrine and the mosaic inscription around the holy shrine.
Ya Hussein 5: Mirror work of the holy shrine Ya Hussein 6: Āina-kāri (Persian: آینهکاری) of the holy shrine
